Roatan, Honduras

Roatan, Honduras

Our first stop during the cruise was Roatan, Honduras. When we got off the ship, the weather didn’t look too promising. At first I thought how we would be hiking for a few hours in rain, but a minute later, the clouds broke and the sun came out.

So, instead of rain, we hiked in high heat and humidity. Nothing I wasn’t used to already.

For the excursion we hiked up an incredibly steep hill. If you don’t believe me, take a look at the chart below. It was intense! I decided to make it my “hill training” for the week. :)

Along the path were many types of plants, flowers…

and lizards (Anoles). Don’t worry it’s alive! It’s chomping on his ear. (our tour guide)

View after we got to the very top of the hill. To me, going up was this easy part because I knew I wouldn’t fall down. Coming back down the hill was another story. Many man-made steps and slippery rocks. I didn’t fall! But, it was tricky!

After we got back to the city, we headed back to the ship, got cleaned up, and came back out for lunch.

Next stop, Belize.

The NCL Pearl

The NCL Pearl

Last week Todd and I took our fourth cruise together. We’ve done one every year, starting with our Hawaiian cruise for our honeymoon. We keep saying how much we want to do that again, but airfare is pricey and I still haven’t gotten that 9.5 hr flight out of my memory yet!

This year, we did the Western Caribbean cruise on the NCL Pearl that took us to Honduras, Belize, Mexico, and Key West, FL.

One of the best things that happened? Todd had secretly upgraded our room, so instead of the room with a balcony, we had the penthouse suite! This suite has more room, a huge balcony, and mostly VIP status. Needless to say, we were spoiled. But, we’ve had a rough summer so it was nice to splurge on this. :)

Here’s the view from our balcony which was on the front of the ship.

The deck and pool below are for crew members.

Beautiful flowers that lasted the whole week.

Our room. This was actually taken the very last day after they had stripped everything. We realized we hadn’t taken any pictures of it! (That white thing hanging from the ceiling is a towel monkey :) )

The view of the bridge from our balcony.

Huge balcony. Seriously, we could have had a party of 20 people out there and still have room!

Yoga on a cruise ship!

The first day was at sea, so we explored the ship.

And ended up bowling for an hour or so. We each won a game :)

Later that evening, we headed to a party with the Captain and some of the crew. We were really excited because this ship had a private Garden Villa for people who had the bigger suites.

Truth? It was small, but nice to have. Their “gym” consisted of a treadmill and bike, and the pool was really small (see below). But still, if we ever had the opportunity (and the price was right!) we’d upgrade to a villa room in a heartbeat.

Next stop, Roatan, Honduras!
